JOB DESCRIPTION:
ADVOCATE FOLLOW-UP FOR BATTERED WOMEN

Purpose:  

To help women, upon their departure from the Shelter, to have continued support in their efforts to live without violence. To assist former residents through the appropriate service agencies, i.e., housing, DCFS, food stamps, employment, police, lawyer, etc.

Qualifications: 

  1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  2. Must be able to work with agencies in assisting clients.
  3. Demonstrate sensitivity to issues around battered women.
  4. Must be able to pass a background check.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  1. Meet with client in person for the initial contact and support her in her endeavors by first listening and then supplying her with relevant information concerning agencies, etc.
  2. Maintain regular contact with client at a mutually agreed upon schedule.
  3. Maintain and submit written progress reports on client’s efforts, state of being during the length of your work with the client on a bi-monthly basis.
  4. Refer any new information concerning services to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Immediate Supervisor: Volunteer Coordinator

Training:  

  1. 24-Hour Domestic Violence Training

    For Rape and Sexual Assault Advocates, an additional 40 hours of training.
  2. In-Service Meetings usually monthly.

What New Horizons Crisis Center is asking for is people who are willing
to share of themselves, their time and energies, to help those who are
temporarily unable to help themselves, those who are frightened,
and those who just need a helping hand.
