JOB DESCRIPTION - SHELTER VOLUNTEER

Purpose: 

To help relieve the work load experienced in the shelter by the employees working there.

Special Skills: 

  1. The ability to interact with a variety of people, including children.
  2. Patience.
  3. Ability to listen when a client has a problem.
  4. Ability to be warm, caring, and compassionate.

Qualified Skills:

  1. Can be assertive.
  2. Ability to work with or without direction.
  3. Sensitivity to the problems of battered women and their children.
  4. Ability to handle self in a crisis situation.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  1. Help keep the children occupied while the parent is in a counseling session.
  2. Assist children with school work or activities.
  3. Answer the phone.
  4. Interact with clients in the shelter.

Training: 

24-hours of domestic violence training.

Immediate Supervisor:

Volunteer Coordinator

to share of themselves, their time and energies, to help those who are
temporarily unable to help themselves, those who are frightened,
and those who just need a helping hand.
