JOB DESCRIPTION - SHELTER VOLUNTEER
Purpose:
To help relieve the work load experienced in the shelter by the
employees working there.
Special Skills:
- The ability to interact with a variety of people, including
children.
- Patience.
- Ability to listen when a client has a problem.
- Ability to be warm, caring, and compassionate.
Qualified Skills:
- Can be assertive.
- Ability to work with or without direction.
- Sensitivity to the problems of battered women and their children.
- Ability to handle self in a crisis situation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Help keep the children occupied while the parent is in a
counseling session.
- Assist children with school work or activities.
- Answer the phone.
- Interact with clients in the shelter.
Training:
24-hours of domestic violence training.
Immediate Supervisor:
Volunteer Coordinator
